Angelo Azzurro Cocktail Recipe
Even though it comes from an Italian restaurant, this cocktail has the color scheme and a fun fact to back up its Labor Day relevance.
The lead bartender at Il Solito, in Portland, Oregon, Bryan Galligos makes the stunner of a blue drink using aria dry gin, Cointreau and giffard blue curacao, with dry shaken egg whites for the pillowy white foam. The cocktail is on the summer menu, but gets a special decoration just for Labor Day – an outline of the state of Oregon in Peychaud's Bitters to make it red, white and blue. Why? Because fun fact: Oregon was the first state to recognize Labor Day in 1887, before it was a federal holiday (and apparently red, white and blue are the official holiday colors for more than just Fourth of July).
.25 oz Giffard Blue Curacao
.75 oz Cointreau
2 oz Aria Dry Gin
1 egg white
Reverse shake egg white with first three ingredients and strain into a couple. Spray with Peychaud's Bitters in the stencil of your choice.
