Prickly Pear Daiquiri

Prickly Pear Daiquiri

Daiquirí is the name of an iron mine near Santiago de Cuba. Some people believe that the cocktail was invented by William A. Chanler, a US congressman who purchased the Santiago iron mines in 1902 and introduced the daiquiri to clubs in New York in that year. The drink became popular in the 1940’s when whiskey was being rationed during World War II, but rum was plentifully available.

Ingredients (for 2)
3.5 oz Brugal Extra Dry Rum
1.5 oz lime juice
2 tsp agave syrup
Prickly Pear Bitters
Dried Lemon Garnish

Directions:
Chill your glasses for 5 minutes. In a shaker filled with ice, combine rum, lime juice and agave syrup. Shake hard for 20 seconds. Strain into chilled glasses. Add a few drops of prickly pear bitters and garnish with a dried lemon slice in each glass.
