Irish Breakfast

March marks the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Cities all over the world celebrate this day and we wanted to o er our own quintessential take to welcome the occasion. This drink combines classic flavors of Ireland including not only Irish whiskey, but also preserves and tea that evoke the flavors of biscuits and jam. The lemon juice adds fresh citrus notes to bring together all these flavors.

Whiskey is a term that can also refer to Scotch, bourbon, and rye. The name terminology could depend on where the whiskey is made. Scotch comes from Scotland, Irish whiskey comes from Ireland. Bourbon comes from US. However, there are real differences in flavor. Irish whiskeys tend to be made using barley, while American whiskeys tend to use corn. Also, Irish whiskeys tend to be aged for 3 years or more using very old barrels while American whiskeys are aged for at least 2 years using new and charred barrels. As a result of these differences, American whiskeys tend to be sweeter and full bodied while Irish whiskeys tend to be lighter and less sweet.

Ingredients (for 2)
1.0 oz raspberry preserves
0.5 oz lemon juice
3.0 oz Irish whiskey
3.0 oz Earl Grey tea

Directions:
Brew the tea using the tea bag and half a cup of hot water. Cool o for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, in a shaker, add the preserves and lemon juice. Stir with a bar spoon to fully combine and dissolve the preserves. Add the whiskey and tea. Fill with ice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Pour among two old fashioned glasses filled with fresh ice. For extra flare, garnish with a lemon twist.
