Where The Heart Is cocktail is a variation of the classic Martinez cocktail. The malty, rich botanical flavors of Bols Barrel Aged pairs superbly with the Minnesotan apple flavors of pommeau and crab apple bitters, while Cocchi Barolo Chinato adds bitter and sweet balance.
This version is served in a chilled KLM Bols House on a clear ice block fit into handmade applewood coaster, this cocktail recalls and honors Bols' history, the guest's home, and the bartender's heart.
2.00 oz. Bols Barrel Aged Genever
0.75 oz Cocchi Barolo Chinato vermouth
0.25 oz Pommeau*
16 drops homemade Crab Apple Bitters**
* (substitute an equal blend of apple cider and Spanish apple brandy Calvados if unavailable)
**(substitute aromatic bitters like Angostura if apple bitters are unavailable)
Combine ingredients, stir, serve in a chilled glass. Garnish with several drops of smoky scotch (like Laphroiag). Enjoy!
