Matcha Mule Cocktail Recipe
For Charity Johnston, the Bar Manager at ROKU in West Hollywood, the inspiration for the Matcha Mule was to have something really fresh and almost have a healthy appeal. She wanted to do something with green tea. For her, it wasn't about making a version of the Moscow mule, but it kind of transformed into that in a way. Johnston wanted to use green tea because she wanted all the cocktails at ROKU to have a Japanese influence. From there, she thought of what she'd like to have in her tea. Fresh mint, ginger, honey, and lemon came to mind. Johnston figured that sounded delicious! She didn't want the green tea flavor to be over stated and that's when she thought of infusing the Vodka with green tea would just give it the hint that the cocktail needed. With a little spice, soothing honey and lemon with a little green tea at the end of each taste - that was the perfect balance.
3 pieces muddled ginger root
2.0 oz. green tea infused vodka
1.0 oz. honey
1.0 oz. fresh lemon juice
Mint sprig and ginger candy garnish
To infuse the vodka, steep a 750ml bottle of vodka with 5 tea bags overnight. Take out the bags and strain.
Mix and shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a copper mug over crushed ice.
