Hibiscus Blackberry Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe
This recipe is a take on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail. Its a totally beautiful drink that is boozy, a little bit floral and a little bit sweet.
Hibiscus Simple Syrup
0.50 cup demerara sugar (sugar in the raw)
0.50 cup filtered water
0.25 cup dried hibiscus flowers
Combine sugar, water and hibiscus flowers in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved. Allow syrup to sit at room temperature for 1 hour and then strain out the flowers and refrigerate the syrup (can be kept for up to 2 weeks).
Ingredients (for 1 cocktail):
0.5 oz hibiscus simple syrup
2.0 oz Bulleit Rye
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Orange peel to garnish
Muddle 3 blackberries with 0.5 oz of simple syrup in the bottom of a shaker. Add a handful of ice, 2.0 oz of rye, 2 dashes of bitters and stir for 20-30 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over a big ice cube and garnish with remaining 2 blackberries and a strip of orange peel. Drink, enjoy, repeat as necessary
