First of the Moderns Cocktail Recipe
Leanne Strickler is the head mixologist at Blue Plate Catering. She has been in the restaurant industry for fifteen years. Having worked in restaurants across the US, Leanne landed in Chicago in 2009 and quickly became immersed in Chicago’s bartending world.
Her focus on fresh, house-made ingredients and balanced yet creative flavor combinations became her trademark; seasonal and sustainable ingredients always inform her creation process.
As her career with spirits evolved, Leanne became the first Distillery Ambassador for North Shore Distillery, Illinois’ first post-prohibition distillery. Her time spent with North Shore enabled her to become intimately familiar with producing high-quality spirits including vodkas, gins, and more esoteric spirits like absinthe and specialty liqueurs.
In order to gain further knowledge, Leanne is currently studying to become a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. With these studies, she hopes to enhance her palate, her service abilities, and the experiences that Blue Plate offers.
Here's her take on a delicious Cinco de Mayo beverage:
1.50 oz. blanco tequila
1.00 oz. cucumber puree
1.00 oz. cilantro jalapeno simple syrup
0.50 oz. lime juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain into an old fashioned glass rimmed with cumin salt. Garnish with a thin strip of cucumber.
