Smoky Mountain Sipper Cocktail Recipe

Here's a drink that is a play off a Whiskey Smash, but replaces the traditional muddling with vigorous cocktail shaking.
You'll find this cocktail at the Red Star Tavern in Portland, Oregon. The lead bartender, Brandon Lockman, is a big fan of fernet and added it to this drink because of how the herbal notes of the spirit pair with the mint. The blackberries and lemon are also a winning combination that add a brightness to the drink, making it the perfect sipper for a Derby day.
1.5 oz bourbon
0.5 oz fresh lemon juice
0.5 oz blackberry puree
0.25 oz fernet
Couple sprigs of mint
Combine all the ingredients, shake and strain into a rocks glass with crushed ice. Garnish with mint.
