Holiday Gin Fizz Cocktail Recipe
The Gin Fizz is a classic drink. It stems from the 19th century and is a "sour" based cocktail with the addition of soda water. When soda water became widely available and popular, bartenders used it to provide new tastes and experiences for their guests.
The nice thing about soda water is that it is effervescent and helps to release the aromatic aromas from the gin or whatever spirit you are drinking.
There are a number of variations of a gin fizz. If shaken with an egg white, it becomes a Silver Fizz. When shaken with an egg yolk, it becomes a Golden Fizz. The use of a whole egg makes the cocktail a Royal Fizz. When you substitute champagne for the soda water it becomes a Diamond Fizz (similar to a French 75).
Ingredients (for 1 serving):
Add the club soda to a Fizz glass and set aside. Reserve 3 cranberries for garnish. In a shaker with no ice, muddle the remainder cranberries very finely. Add the remaining ingredients. Shake vigorously without ice for 30 seconds for froth. Add 4 ice cubes and shake for 10 seconds. Strain into a prepared glass and garnish with cranberries.
